Medical Matters

Medical Records

Most schools have their own medical staff including Doctor and Nurse who keep a detailed set of medical records on each student. It is therefore essential that the Medical Form is duly completed and signed by the parents, giving as much information as possible about the student's medical history.
Any medication currently being taken should be described with the appropriate dosage and frequency clearly stated. In the event that the student falls ill, information is therefore readily at hand, including permission from the parent to administer the appropriate treatment to the student for a rapid recovery.
Without such information readily available, time is wasted attempting to find out the essential information and gaining the parental consent for medication to be administered.
Without parental consent, most institutions will refuse to administer any medication, as it may be illegal to do so. We retain a copy of medical records on file in case they are required at any time when the
student is not at the school.

Medical Insurance

Medical care is provided free of charge to students by the National Health Service in the UK. However, private healthcare insurance is also available for the provision of a faster service for your child. This insurance can be arranged through OPDS.
Many institutions have agreements with large insurance companies that will provide medical insurance for students. Some colleges make a charge for medical insurance.
Although standard policies are usually in force, covering the most likely ailments for students in this age group, a quote for more comprehensive cover can usually be obtained on request.

OPDS is a wholly accredited member of Aegis, the Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students.  As such, we offer the highest levels of care including well documented procedures and detailed record keeping.
